Create a Secure Cargo Setup in Your MINI

I use the MINI more and more for small jobs and to pick up parts. Rather than just removing the rear seats to increase room, I wanted to make a secure platform for cargo. Most of the rear-seat-delete kits I’ve seen have been more track focused. I wanted something utility focused, so I made my own.

I used 5/8 inch plywood covered with a thick rubber cargo liner and edged with rubber. It’s entirely removable and secures in the front to the existing lower seat clips. I used cabinet closer clips to attach the floor plate to the support frame and a piano hinge in the middle. It articulates from both sides, but is really intended to use as a storage compartment in the back for tools and spares. I have several cargo nets which I can place in various positions to secure cargo and a fence from the junkyard to stop cargo surging forward toward the front seats. I’m really pleased with the way it turned out and it only took a couple of hours to build.
